五條駅から徒歩で到着。荷物を置いたら、新町通りを端から端まで歩く。途中の柿の葉寿司屋で夕食の買い出し。帰り道の酒蔵で地酒を一本。
朝、近所のパン屋か喫茶店で朝食。午前は吉野山まで車で40分、お寺を二つほど。昼を過ぎたら高野山も手が届く距離。夜は宿に戻って、買ってきた食材で自炊。
遠出はせず、町なかで過ごす日。柿畑や吉野川の河原へ散歩。夕方は「かもきみの湯」で長湯。戻って、残りの地酒を静かに。
ゆっくり朝食、洗濯物をたたみ、10時にチェックアウト。帰りの途中に丹生川上神社を一社、または五條駅前の市場でお土産を。
Walk from Gojo Station, drop your bags, and walk Shinmachi-dori end to end. Pick up kakinoha-zushi for dinner on the way. Buy a bottle of local sake at one of the breweries on the route back.
Breakfast at a nearby bakery or café. Forty minutes by car to Yoshino in the morning — two temples, a soba lunch. Koyasan is within reach in the afternoon. Back by dusk. Cook what you bought yesterday.
Don't drive. Walk the persimmon fields and the Yoshino riverbank. Late afternoon, soak at Kamokimi hot spring. Back to the house, finish the sake.
Slow breakfast, fold your laundry, out by ten. One of the Niu-Kawakami shrines on the way home, or souvenirs from the market near Gojo Station.
盆地の五條は、四季の輪郭がはっきりしている。古い家だからこそ、季節がよく通る。 Gojo sits in a mountain basin — seasons arrive clearly here. An old house lets the weather through, which is part of the point.
吉野山の桜が順に上へ咲き上がる。町なかの軒先にも花が挿さる。朝晩はまだ冷える。
The cherry blossoms climb Yoshino from the foothills. Locals set flowers at the eaves along Shinmachi. Mornings and evenings still cold.
吉野川で鮎漁が始まる。厚い梁の下は、昼も少し涼しい。夜は盆地特有の涼しさ。
Ayu fishing opens on the Yoshino river. Under the heavy beams, even daytime feels a little cooler. Nights cool off faster than the cities.
高野山、丹生川上、吉野奥地が順に色づく。柿が町なかの民家の軒先で干される。朝の空気が澄む。
Koyasan, Niu-Kawakami, and deep Yoshino turn colour in sequence. Persimmons hang from eaves across town. The morning air clears.
雪が積もる日もある。古い家は隙間も多く、暖房を入れながら厚手の布団で眠る、それが似合う季節。
Some days bring snow. An old house has its drafts; a thick duvet and the heater running — that kind of winter.
