歴史ある町並みを歩き、温泉に浸かり、地の酒と食を味わう。慌ただしい旅ではなく、土地の空気に体を預けるための一泊二日。 Walk the old streets, soak in a hot spring, taste the local sake and food. Not a busy itinerary — just two days to let the place settle into you.

五條駅から宿へ。荷物を置いたら、徒歩で新町通りへ。江戸期から続く町家の軒先が途切れず残る、全国でも稀な景観を歩く。夕方前に戻り、近くの銭湯か車で温泉へ。
地元の食堂で吉野の鮎、柿の葉寿司、奈良の地酒を一杯。宿に戻って、静かな通りの夜を窓越しに聞く。
宿でゆっくり朝食。10時前にチェックアウトし、車で30分の高野山、または吉野山・丹生川上神社へ。昼には麓の蕎麦屋で一息つける。
Arrive at Gojo Station, drop your bags, walk to Shinmachi-dori. The preserved Edo-era main street runs unbroken for nearly a kilometre — rare anywhere in Japan. Back by dusk. A nearby sento, or a hot spring 20 minutes by car.
Dinner at a neighbourhood place — Yoshino river trout, kakinoha-zushi, a glass of Nara sake. Back at the house, hear the quiet of the old street through the windows.
Slow breakfast. Check out before 10. Thirty minutes by car to Koyasan, or to Yoshino and the Niu-Kawakami shrines. Lunch at a soba shop at the foot of the mountains.
盆地の五條は、四季の輪郭がはっきりしている。ご到着の季節で、宿の外に広がる景色は違う。 Gojo sits in a mountain basin — seasons arrive clearly here. What you see outside the house depends on when you come.
吉野山の桜が順に上へ咲き上がる。町なかでは新町の軒先に花が挿さる。朝晩はまだ冷える。
The cherry blossoms climb Yoshino from the foothills to the peak. Locals set flowers at the eaves along Shinmachi. Mornings and evenings are still cold.
吉野川で鮎漁が始まる。夜は盆地特有の涼しさが戻り、縁側でビールが美味い時期。
Ayu fishing opens on the Yoshino river. Nights cool off faster than the cities — the kind of weather that makes a beer on the engawa taste right.
高野山、丹生川上、吉野奥地が順に色づく。柿が町なかの民家の軒先で干される。朝の空気が澄む。
Koyasan, Niu-Kawakami, and deep Yoshino turn colour in sequence. Persimmons hang from eaves across town. The morning air clears.
高野山には雪が積もる日がある。町は静かで、湯上がりに夜の新町通りを歩くと呼吸が白く残る。
Koyasan sees snow some days. The town goes quiet. Walking Shinmachi after a bath, your breath hangs in the air.
別邸は一棟貸切の町家。庭はないものの、路地に面した縁側と玄関土間で、古い町のスケールを味わえます。 Bettei is a whole machiya. There is no garden, but the engawa and earth-floor entry give you the sense of the old town’s scale.
